46 Two Paths
As Nana watched the Little Red Haired Girl gradually release her hands and fingers, and started to open her eyes, she released how brave this child was and oh so curious. She watched her wince and her eyes water, rubbing them with the back of her hand, but still opening them again despite the pain the bright light was causing her.
“It hurts Nana.”
“Be patient Fluff, it will get better. Try again.”
Eventually the Little Red Haired Girl could see through watery eyes even though it spoilt her pretty face as it made her frown and squint.
“Now tell me, which one of your dolls is Susie?”
She talked about her dolls (fairies) with such passion it distracted her and her eyesight gradually acclimatised to the bright light.
“Oh look! Look at the daisies!” she exclaimed as she started to look around her. Nana knew how breath taking the child would find it. Seeing everything in a new beauty, with a new strength of light. A new pair of eyes that could not let you walk past without seeing the beauty. After all, a daisy is a daisy whether it is growing in lush green grass or the crack in the tarmac.
Nana let the Little Red Haired Girl wander for a little while and kept a close eye on her. It gave her time to think and survey their surroundings. There were two paths that Soul had helpfully given them a choice of. Soul could only see so far from its current position in the Pumphouse but at least had shown them the start of each path to choose from. There were red flags in the branches of the trees marking the way and the grass had been cut. One path went past the door of the Pumphouse and on up the hill. The other was more level and more shaded, but Soul had fulfilled its purpose with the red flag markings and cut grass verges.
Nana contemplated both. One would be harder for her to walk climbing the hill with weighted feet, but it would take them past the Pumphouse door and give her the opportunity to look at it and see how it was blocked. Nana knew her energy levels would deplete quickly whilst she was on earth and she had to make sure she reserved enough energy to get the child back to the Pumphouse, It was crucial. especially on this first venture out.
The other path was more level and would be easier and quicker for Nana to cope with. It was a dilemma, a difficult choice.
“Let her decide” called Spirit “Ask the child which way” it called with as much fading strength as it could muster through the broken Pumphouse windows.
“Shall we go now?” Nana asked the Little Red Haired Girl who was busy blowing Dandelion fluff for her dolls amusement. “Ok”
“Which way shall we go, up the hill past the Pumphouse or the other way?” Nana asked her.

The child looked in both directions and she consulted her dolls. Nana waited getting more tired with the gravitational pull the earth was holding her with.
“Can we go up the hill past the Pumphouse?”
“If you like Fluff. Why that way?”
“Well my dolls gave me a spark.”
Nana looked puzzled.
“An idea” the child reinstated.
“Okay” Nana hesitated “which is?”
“If we go that way, we can speak to Body through the door to check she is Ok. Can we?”
“Yes that’s doable.”
“And also the way back will be quicker.”
“How so?”
“We won’t have to walk past the Pumphouse and we can Roly Poly down the hill if we are tired.”
Nana smiled “That seems like a great idea. Thank you dolls.”
“And fairies too”
“Thank you fairies. It’s a good start” and so they set off on their chosen path.
“What are the red flags for Nana?” They make me feel small.”
“They are there to guide us. Soul has tried to show us the paths that are available. Why should they make you feel small?”
“Mummy told me they were there to tell us of danger and not to go into the water.”
Nana was lost for a minute.
“On the sandy beach that time.”
“Oh I see. Well yes, sometimes they are there to warn us of danger, but they can also be there as a guide.”
“So how do you tell? which ones are danger and which ones are good?”
“That’s a difficult question and no one really knows that. All you can do is ask Spirit and follow your intuition.”
“But Spirit is not here.”
“I know child, but let’s go. We have made our choice and I am tiring quickly. We must get back to the Pumphouse soon.”
“I don’t want to go back there.”
“I know.”
“I don’t want to ….” A look from Nana stopped the child.
They continued off up the path towards the Pumphouse and hopefully beyond it.
‘Please God ‘ thought Nana ‘I hope I will have enough strength.’
“Granted” God said “But you don’t have to wait till you need something. Talk to me anytime.”
The thought was comforting.
