200 Decisions

How does one make a decision?
It’s a good question.

“One can list all the factual pro’s and con’s” Brain suggested “and make a good decision. Tally up the benefits and losses, or map it out like what leads to what?”
“One cannot predict the path” Soul sighed “but the factual assessment can help.”
“Of course” Brain scoffed. “How else does one make sound decisions. Pro’s and con’s are always the best way.”
“Not necessarily” Body interjected “there are other factors to be considered like where one needs to be placed geographically, language, or what is good for our health.”
“True and obvious” Brain agreed.

“I for one am fed up of nor being able to speak Portuguese” Body complained. “It makes everything so difficult and time consuming.”
“Then you should have worked harder at learning it” Brain suggested. “I may have had more inclination had we actually gone to a class instead of trying to learn the language off an App. You are so undisciplined with it and it is so easy to forget being so unrelated to an actual physical conversation.”
“Yes, I agree and know, but I cannot be everywhere at once. There was always something else pressing on our time like builders not doing their work correctly. Going from bad to worse in chaotic disasters. I have learned more about where to place myself and what company I want to keep in the future.”
“Good” Brain was smug. “A lesson learnt finally.”

“What about what we want to do?” Heart cried. “How do we make a decision or know about what we want to do? Does that not come into the equation and consideration?”
“Of course” Soul sighed “The people we want to be around, what we love to do and see, what and who makes us feel good. We all want that too along our path.”
“But how do you make a decision about knowing what your Heart truely wants?” Heart cried.

“There is a trick” the Little Red Haired Girl suggested.
“Go on tell us child.”
“Grandad taught me. You toss a coin.”
They waited for the child to continue.
“The head means we wait for the bus. The tail means we walk to the next stop.”
They waited some more.
“If it lands on the tail you know what you want.”
“Relying on the toss of a coin is not really conducive to making a sound decision” Brain assessed.
“No it doesn’t tell you the right answer” the child continued “it tells you what you want. Are you happy about it?”

“I would prefer not to walk” Body stated still tired from no sleep.
“That’s not it” the child insisted “were you happy about the answer?”
Heart listened. “Yes it meant I got to spend more time to talk with Grandad rather than him just making sure I got on the right bus.”
“See… you have your answer.” the child raised her open hands. “What if it had landed on heads?”
“I would have been disappointed” Heart admitted.
“Then if the coin makes the decision, you have your answer. Either way, you know what you want cos the choice is gone.”

Heart borrowed Brain for a while and thought about this. It relied on believing the coins answer as being definitive. Resulting in Heart knowing either to be disappointed or happy at the result. It was definitely a trick to play on Brain really.
“Get out of my head Heart. Let’s think about the original question posed. How does one make a decision?”

“With one’s spirit too” Spirit called.” Does the decision make you feel inspired? What can you imagine it being like? Can you picture yourself there, or doing the work? Can we do it with our natural gifts as well as learned? Does it lift us, satisfy us as a result?”
“Oooooh…that’s a lot of questions” the child answered “we would need a lot of coins” which made Spirit laugh and the resulting smile on Body’s face felt like a long lost friend.
“And more than we have at the moment” Brain muttered.
“Shut up Brain” they all answered.

“We ask Big voice, our angels and our Holy ancestors” Spirit called “and they will help. They will give us signs if we are open to listening and seeing.”
“I know” Body answered. “I’m learning. There is nothing wrong with my ears or sight. I am learning and it helps us reach a decision.”
“Then we know we are on the right track” Spirit called. “They help us.”
“Like the man on the stairs?” the child asked and they couldn’t quite realise an answer.
“Did he make you feel anxious or scared? Did he make you feel unsure? Did he make you have pictures you didn’t understand? Was he angry?” Spirit called.
“No” the child answered honestly. “He was just there”
“Then he was good. He was safe for you” Spirit assessed.

“Aren’t you forgetting Big Voice?” Soul sighed “he is the most important help in making a decision.”
“Why is he the most important?” the child asked “How do we know it’s him?”
“One just knows, and asking why does not help child.”
“Bit like your school report” Brain remembered. “Mr Davy, I think his name was, taught you French at big school”
“And what did he say?” Body asked warily.
Brain tried to recall “Oh yes something about the child was of a satisfactory standard in the subject, Grade B I think he said.”
“How is that relevant?” Body questioned “It’s just a grade.”
“He went on to say that the child contributed well in class but would get on a lot further if she stopped asking why a table was masculine or feminine?”
Spirit laughed “That’s my girl.”

“The point is” Brain continued “Soul is saying we don’t need to ask why Big voice is there and is the most important? or why Big voice exists?”
“Correct” Soul sighed “and although there are other members in the class that contribute too, either good or bad, he has created them all. All with individual gifts, talents and character traits. A decision is only as good or as bad as what is the most benefit to as many as possible. What is truthful? What is worthy? What is just and fair?”
“Is there good and bad in heaven?” the child asked.
“There is good in heaven I believe” sighed Soul “Not just Big voice but a whole class.”
The child’s eyes widened.

“I think that goes against many religious beliefs” Brain stated the obvious.
“Does that matter?” called Spirit. “Are we not allowed to be individual?”
“Yes” Brain agreed “But it will get you into trouble.”
“Intention is everything” sighed Soul. ” It is not our intention to be contentious. Do we not get good and bad in all professions, walks of life, police, nurses, builders etc. Are there not fallen angels? Historic characters that fell from grace and lost their kingdom or political fellows that lost their way or even disciples that became ‘a Judas?’ If the intention is good we are safe in what we decide to do, and that should be part of our decision making process. What is best for all? What offers the most help or resolution? What is fair to as many as possible? What makes us at peace too?”
“Without it being to the detriment of your own self worth and values. You need to love yourself first” Big voice stated. “We are all given a choice. Call out for help if and when you see it is necessary and a difficult decision has to be made and I will listen. The intention has to be truthful and from the Heart.”
