141 Goodbye
Following the good news of the house sale, Body’s days were filled with selling new furniture and getting rid of old stuff. Giving it away was always appreciated by some of the Portuguese neighbours or rapidly collected from being placed next to the bins (the dustbin men here collect all items, no need for a tip yard).
Body packed everything she could and put into storage as it was not required. There had no new home yet and had no idea where there could be heading. Temporary rented accommodation was the way forward for now.
Body worked alone and found ways around what she couldn’t lift, dismantling or emptying items as need be and was able to cope with the here and now, and switch Brain off to the worrying about where they were going or how it was going to be. Brain allowed this whilst so much was going on hour by hour, day to day with items to sell, shift or throw away were more prevalent.
Finally, the last day of moving arrived, and once Body had signed all the paperwork, after Brains perusal, she left the house with two suitcases, one box of food and one box of toiletries, the clothes she stood in and drove to their rented accommodation.
As they drove past the path to the Pumphouse, Body stopped the car and they walked to the well and sat on the edge of it opposite the Pumphouse.
“Why on earth are we here?” questioned Brain “have we not seen enough of this dark place?”
“Yes” Body replied “but I’ve never really studied it from the outside.”
“Does it matter?” asked Brain “what it looks like from the outside?”
“I’m not sure” Body replied “coz it kind of looks smaller than I remember it. Almost quaint and could be pretty if it was made so. A nice little camping place like a beach hut on a beach.”
“We are not using it. Get that thought out of your head” Brain reminded her.
“I know, I am kind of realising that the dark place, the dark monster, this Pumphouse, was not so scary after all” admitted Body.
“Easy to say from the outside” Brain mocked.
“I know” admitted Body “but I wanted to say ‘Goodbye’ to the place. I know we spent less time in it than the house but somehow it was more valuable time.”
Soul sighed, and Body’s shoulders relaxed as they sat there in a patch of sun, with the familiar trees and beautiful wild flowers surrounding them. Their onlookers from the past. Nothing outside of the Pumphouse had changed, but they had.
“It’s good to reflect how far we have come along our path” sighed Soul.
“But where are we going?” asked Brain.
“Ssh Brain, we cannot see it yet, but it will come into view with time.”
“Like Daddy say’s ‘come along motors do’ when we are in the car leaving Nana’s house. He has to wait and see what comes along the road otherwise there will be an accident” the Little Red Haired Girl piped up.
“Yes child, kind of like that, although this time we don’t have to wait for others, for other ‘motors’. We are free and can move out onto the right path when we want to. We can go in any direction, we do not have to wait anymore” sighed Soul.
“I look forward to that” called Spirit “whatever creative endeavour that will be.”
“As long as we are sensible” stated Body “we have to settle somewhere one day and as long as I don’t have to do such gruelling work.”
“As long as it is something or a place that is more stimulating and thought provoking” announced Brain.
“And satisfies our journeys end” sighed Soul.
They surveyed the trees for a while in silence.
Finally Heart spoke “I am scared.”
“Of what?” the Little Red Haired Girl asked.
“The future” Heart was feeling brave to say it out loud. “I don’t know where we are going or who we will be with. We may end up all alone.”
“You have us! and we is on our own anyway all this time. We are a big girl now.” the child answered.
“It will be an adventure ” called Spirit “It’s been such a long time since we had some adventure and fun. I can’t remember how to do it,”
“I would like someone to share it with. It’s better with someone to share” cried Heart.
“It’s the icing on the cake” the child proclaimed.
“Who knows what is around the corner” called Spirit.
“It will soon be home time” the child reassured “you’ll see and before you know it, you’ll be telling Mummy all about it.”
“Yes child, except I will have no one to tell” Heart cried.
“You can always talk to me” Big voice reassured.
